Full Range of Surveys

Pre-Purchase Surveys

A pre-purchase survey is a comprehensive inspection of a vessel's structural integrity, systems, and overall operating performance. A detailed report — including an equipment list and any noted deficiencies — is completed and delivered the same day as the inspection. Market and replacement values are also provided. Most financial institutions and insurance companies require a pre-purchase survey before finalizing a purchase.

Insurance Valuation Surveys

An insurance survey evaluates the overall condition, safety, and value of a vessel to help marine insurers assess risk and determine appropriate coverage. This type of survey is commonly required when obtaining new insurance, renewing an existing policy, or re-insuring a vessel. The inspection covers the vessel's structural integrity, onboard systems, and safety equipment, resulting in a detailed report that documents current market and replacement values along with any noted deficiencies.

Sellers Surveys

A seller's survey is a proactive inspection performed before listing a vessel for sale. By identifying any deficiencies or maintenance issues in advance, the owner has the opportunity to make repairs, ensuring the vessel is in optimal condition when presented to potential buyers. This not only helps justify the asking price but also builds buyer confidence, streamlines the sales process, and reduces the likelihood of unexpected issues arising during a buyer's pre-purchase survey.

Hull Bottom Inspections Surveys

A hull and bottom inspection assesses the overall condition of a vessel's hull, running gear, and underwater components. These inspections are ideal for evaluating the need for routine maintenance, verifying the quality of recent repair work, or simply ensuring your vessel remains in peak condition. A detailed report is provided outlining the current condition of all inspected components along with any recommended repairs or areas of concern.

Moisture Testing Survey

Moisture testing is a critical component of every survey conducted by Iridium Marine Group. Using professional-grade moisture meters, our surveyors accurately measure moisture content within fiberglass laminates, hull core materials, and wooden structures. Elevated moisture levels can lead to serious structural issues over time, including delamination, rot, and hull degradation. Early detection through moisture testing allows vessel owners to address problems before they escalate into costly repairs, helping to protect both the safety and value of their vessel.

Thermal Imaging

Iridium Marine Group utilizes state-of-the-art thermal imaging technology as a standard part of our survey process, allowing us to detect hidden defects and anomalies that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. This advanced technique is particularly effective in identifying issues such as moisture intrusion, delamination, and structural irregularities beneath a vessel's surface.

The thermal image above was captured during the inspection of a mega yacht, where thermal imaging successfully identified a previously repaired area that had begun to delaminate from the core material — a defect that showed no visible signs on the surface. The lower photograph shows the same area following repair, with the surface being faired and prepared for painting.

Financial Evaluation Surveys

A valuation survey is conducted to provide an accurate and professionally documented assessment of a vessel's current market and replacement value. This type of survey is commonly required for a variety of purposes, including refinancing, estate settlements, and asset valuation during divorce proceedings. The resulting report serves as an authoritative reference for financial institutions, legal professionals, and other parties requiring a certified vessel valuation.

Repair Work Survey

An inspection of repair work survey is conducted to verify that any maintenance, repairs, or modifications performed on a vessel have been completed to the highest industry standards. This type of survey provides vessel owners, insurers, and financial institutions with the confidence that all work has been carried out correctly, using appropriate materials and methods, ensuring the vessel's safety, integrity, and long-term performance are not compromised.

Audio Gauge Survey

Ultrasonic audio gauge testing is used to accurately measure the thickness of aluminum and steel plating, identifying any deterioration or metal loss in critical areas such as underwater hull sections, tanks, sea chests, pipes, and structural components. One of the key advantages of this testing method is that it can be performed without removing existing coatings or paint, saving vessel owners the significant time and expense associated with surface preparation. This non-invasive approach allows our surveyors to deliver accurate and reliable results while minimizing disruption to the vessel.

Damage Inspection Survey

A damage survey is conducted to thoroughly assess the full extent of damage sustained by a vessel and to assist in developing a comprehensive repair plan. Iridium Marine Group works closely with vessel owners, insurers, and repair facilities throughout the entire repair process, offering progressive inspections at key stages to ensure all work is being carried out to the highest standards. A final inspection is then completed upon the conclusion of repairs to verify that the vessel has been restored to its proper condition and that all work meets industry requirements.
